I have tried most of the 'fixes' suggested by Square Enix in various forums with no success. And i gave in and had to buy a new ps3 to make it work other then those 3 things though there is not much you can do. Thank you tons in advance!i had this same issue with my PS3 there are a few things like use hardwire instead of wireless, reformat ps3 and try again, and the other step was just keep trying.i tried for 2 months from december to feb. I have a PC (Windows) digital download and would appreciate any help anybody can offer. I am still having the same error, so if anyone can offer any more help that would be great! I have tried just about everything.uninstalled/re-installed Steam and FFXIV verified game cache shut down firewall/antivirus and checked settings with them for access when them being down didn't help I even tried a cmd prompt recommended by another player and of course restarting the computer and contacting both Steam and Square Enix (unfortunately, won't be able to hear from them until a week day). I was running at 1080i i know that sounds really odd but hey it worked.

The portable hotspot thing then re opened ffxiv and it updated then after u can switch back to ur normal wifi. Okay what worked for me was I connected to my phones wifi. Blog entry `Unable to complete version check.

The most recent update was an emergency one that happened around the 13th of September.

Whenever I got version check errors it was because the launcher was an older version and for some reason, it couldn't update itself to the most recent version.
